Police are seeking to question a man they say was caught on video prior to the theft of nearly $3,000 worth of electronics from the local Department of Health and Environmental Control office.
The man is described as a 5-foot-11-inch-tall black male, with a slim build wearing a knitted cap, a black bomber jacket and dark shirt.
Authorities say they want to question the man in connection with a Nov. 19 theft from the DHEC office on Carolina Avenue in Orangeburg.
Employees said that sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., someone went into several first floor offices and removed multiple items, including computer software worth an estimated $1,800. A Canon PIXMA camera, two Garmin GPS units and two thermometers were among several more items reported missing.
One employee said that about 10:30 a.m., a man opened the door and seemed surprised to see them, the report states. The subject asked for a specific person, then walked back out of the door.
Surveillance video showed a male subject pulling on door handles at the facility.
If anyone has any information about the subject, they are asked to contact Investigator John Caddell at 803-533-4103 or call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office
More than $6,200 worth of electronics, jewelry and clothing were reported stolen from an Atlantic Avenue residence Tuesday.
The homeowner said that about 11 p.m., he discovered someone had forced entry into his residence through a window. He said a 32-inch flatscreen TV, a Playstation game system, a desktop computer, a gold man’s ring and bracelet, two Pittsburgh Steeler jackets, six pairs of men’s boxers and a red, hooded sweatshirt with the word “Gitent” on it were stolen.
The man said the red sweatshirt is one of a kind since “Gitent” is the name of his out-of-state cousin’s music business.
